Sense of Symptoms

Sense of Symptoms: Pulsatile Tinnitus is from an ongoing project visualising invisible symptoms of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) by Mellissa Monsoon.
Monsoon has been visualising symptoms of a rare brain condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) since being diagnosed in 2018.
This exhibition showcases artwork made in collaboration with the IIH UK charity community and from the artist’s lived experience of the condition.
There is no specific cure for tinnitus as it affects everyone differently; sound is an effective way to manage the symptom, using sounds such as white noise aids people to be able to switch off from continuous sound  Subjective tinnitus is the most common type of tinnitus, someone would get this by being exposed to excessive noise.
Pulsatile tinnitus is a subtype of tinnitus, Tinnitus can cause depression, anxiety and hearing loss.
