This project explores the world of fungi, the Reishi mushroom, Oyster mushrooms & medicinal plants such as Lavender, Sage, Lemon Grass and Cress. The Reishi mushroom is featured because of its fascinating history; in Asian culture, the Reishi was named the 'mushroom of immortality' or 'the elixir of life because of its medicinal benefits to fight off illnesses and boost your immune system.                                                                                                                                                                                                              

This mushroom boosts the number of macrophages in your white blood cells which fight infections and are believed for thousands of years to prolong your life if you consumed this fungus. This installation explores the ideas of medicinal medicine, nature in a concrete environment, the human body becoming intertwined with nature and questioning our relationships with the invisible world.                                                      

 

Using the body as a landscape, Mellissa exhibited the installation 'Immortal Ground' at Central Saint Martins, MA Art & Science degree show titled, 'Unfolding Realities' in May 2016.
